Photo series

The "Chante-moi une chanson" ("Sing me a song") series is an experiment:
Where does a song go when it's photographed? Does it disappear, fading into the portrait? Does it leave some trace of itself in the photo: a funny expression on the singer's face, pursed lips, an intensity about the eyes, an emotion?

I asked some people to let me take their picture as they sang a song they like. Each of their personalities appears in the photo through their song.

There are 2 phenomena that seem to show up in these singers' expressions: on the one hand, there is a desire to communicate (with the photographer or with another partner-in-song) and, on the other hand, there is a desire to withdraw (to better savour the music).

According to Kant, music is the language of the emotions. A song would then be the words: emotion, speaking.

Thanks to all who've sung so far. I'd love to add more singers to the series, so contact me if you'd like to try. :)
